Its MMA in its early stages (Mixed Martial Arts) Before decent rules were applied. Now a days its much more controled and there are rules like No kicks in the head if your opponent lies down, No hitting/elbows/kicking in the back of the head, and ofc No hitting/kicking or touching your opponents ballsack ^^.
MMA Is a fantastic sport, It started out with some peps who would like to see what Martial art were the best, so you ended up with a kickboxer versus a wrestler and its like, Brazilian jiujitsu kinda won that game back then.
Now the fighters are more or less allaround fighters, they have some Mo tai, jiujitsu and wrestling skills, this often leads to some very intereting fights which has much more skill involved than just pounding away.
UFC is the most promonent MMA championship out there atm.

there is an other promotion in the states called Strikeforce, and the heavyweight champion is dutch, Alistair Overeem. But still the best MMA fighter on this planet is Fedor Emelianenko. He had his chance to go to the ufc and fight the 'best' heavyweights, he and his management decided against it, even after being offered more money than any fighter previously. The only conclusion we can come to based on this information is that he is afraid of getting assraped. I'd fully expect someone like frank mir to beat him for example. The only person that has a shot of beating him in strikeforce is overeem and if he is to be believed fedor has been ducking him for quite some time.
Fedor ducking Overeem... Alistair did not defend his title for 2 years, cancelling fights as well. He lost all his fights against Nogueira. But thats not important, the exiting thing in MMA is that you never know in advance who wins. Future will tell us. Werdum is an important fight for Fedor, to know if he still is the best.
